DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Thousands of people exercised their right to vote on Sunday. Channel 2 Action News received new numbers from the secretary of state’s office. In all, more than 2 million Georgians have already cast their vote for the general election.
Channel 2′s Audrey Washington spoke with New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Pastor Dr. Jamal Bryant about how the church is participating in the election. He said New Birth will be the second largest polling site in the state of Georgia and the largest one open on Election Day.
“Make sure that 87 percent of our members are registered to vote. We’re doing robocalls every other day like we’re running for office,” Bryant said.
Bryant said he expects a large turn out on Nov. 3. And said he has plenty of precautions in place, like hand sanitizers and masks.
“You won’t be able to come on the grounds without a mask,” Bryant said. “If you are absent of that, we will provide you one as a courtesy. We have pulled in volunteers to make sure we have social distancing. Our health ministry will be taking temperatures, so everything we can do short of flying Dr. Fauci in, we are doing it.”
Georgia is a battleground state. According to a recent exclusive Channel 2 Action News-Landmark Communications poll of Georgia voters, President Trump sits at 49 percent, while former Vice President Biden is at 45 percent.
Local leaders know Georgians could have a big impact on our state, as well as Washington D.C.
“It’s now our time to take the baton and march to the polls. We are the epicenter for civil rights in the entire world. So Georgia cannot drop the ball we have to go to the polls,” Bryant said.
So, if you plan to vote on election day, this is what you need to know:
Make sure you’re registered to vote
Bring your I.D.
Arrive early
Either way, if you get to your polling place before the polls close, you will be able to vote. Stay in the line.
