DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The family of a 24-year-old man who died inside the DeKalb County Jail just two days after being booked is demanding answers about how it happened.
Family members and their attorneys say David Addo Wright was stabbed to death inside the jail despite having already posted bond and expecting to be released soon.
What the family thinks the motive was behind the attack, LIVE on Channel 2 Action News starting at 4 p.m.
According to the family’s attorneys, six inmates entered Wright’s cell and attacked him. They also allege the cell door locks were not working properly.
Channel 2’s Ashlyn Webb has reached out to both the GBI and DeKalb County officials for comment on those allegations.
Wright’s family says he should never have died in custody.

“This was a young man who was moving in the right direction, doing the things he needed to do,” said his father, Darrin Wright. “He did not need to die violently. He was not convicted of any crime.”
The family says Wright had been arrested after a fight with a cousin at a Walmart. According to relatives, it was his first arrest, and he had no prior criminal history.
Wright was a former student at Clark Atlanta University and, according to his family, was preparing to enlist in the U.S. Marines. They described him as active in his community and focused on his future.
His father said he had spoken with his son the night before his death and expected him to be home soon after bond was posted.
Now, the family’s attorneys are demanding a full accounting of what happened inside the jail, including whether staffing, security measures or facility conditions contributed to the deadly attack.
The family also says they believe they know what may have motivated the assault and are urging authorities to thoroughly investigate all circumstances surrounding Wright’s death.
