Parks and rec centers providing free snacks for students over spring break

Across Atlanta, a number of organizations are working hard to keep kids fed while schools are closed.

This week is spring break for a lot of metro Atlanta counties, but that does not mean that kids will go hungry.

In Atlanta, kids can still get breakfast, lunch and dinner through the Centers for Hope meal program.

Breakfast and lunch are available from 10 a.m. to noon at the following City of Atlanta Recreation Centers:

  • Adams Park Recreation Center
  • CT Martin Natatorium and Recreation Center
  • Dunbar Recreation Center
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation & Aquatic Center
  • Peachtree Hills Recreation Center
  • Thomasville Recreation Center

Students can get dinner to-go between 4 and 6 p.m. at these rec centers:

  • Adams Park Recreation Center
  • CT Martin Natatorium and Recreation Center
  • Anthony Flanagan Memorial Recreation Center
  • Bessie Branham Recreation Center
  • Coan Park Recreation Center
  • Dunbar Recreation Center
  • Grant Park Recreation Center

  • James Orange Recreation Center
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation & Aquatic Center
  • Arthur Langford Recreation Center
  • Peachtree Hills Recreation Center

DeKalb Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs announced Monday morning the department will provide snacks to kids during spring break week.

The snacks will be handed out every afternoon April 6-10 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. These are the locations where families can pick up snacks.

  • Exchange Intergenerational Recreation Center, 2771 Columbia Drive, Decatur, GA 30034
  • Redan Recreation Center, 1839 Phillips Rd., Lithonia, GA 30058
  • Tobie Grant Recreation Center, 644 Parkdale Drive, Scottdale, GA 30079
  • N.H. Scott Recreation Center, 2230 Tilson Road, Decatur, GA 30032
  • Lucious Sanders Recreation Center, 2484 Bruce Street, Lithonia, GA 30058
  • Mason Mill Recreation Center, 1340- B McConnell Drive, Decatur, GA 30033
  • Hamilton Recreation Center, 3263 Chapel Street, Scottdale, GA 30079
  • Midway Recreation Center, 3181 Midway Road, Decatur, GA 30032

The county did not say what kind of snacks would be available except that they would be nutritional snacks.

Finding ways to provide meals and snacks for families over spring break has been a main focus for Georgia public school districts. Atlanta Public Schools handed out free groceries Saturday to students.

Fulton County will host one on Thursday, while Gwinnett County has partnered with several nonprofits.
