DeKalb County gang members face 45-count indictment

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Nine suspected gang members in DeKalb County are facing several criminal charges listed in an indictment released Friday.

Police say the eight people they've arrested so far are responsible for five homicides, four aggravated assaults and several robberies that have taken place since May.

The indictment says the gang calls itself the "Hate Committee," a subgroup of the Gangster Disciples.

According to the indictment, one suspected gang member, Quantavious Hurt, shot and killed DeMarco Franklin in early July as he left an Exxon gas station with his girlfriend and a 3-year-old child.

"[I want] this indictment to serve notice to every gang member that is operating in DeKalb County," said DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric Alexander. "You can stop or you can leave, but if you continue doing what you're doing you will suffer the consequences...period."

Police have arrested all, but one of the suspects named in the indictment. They are still looking for Daniel Pena, 22, who also goes by the name "Island.
