Cobb County house features nearly 300,000 Christmas lights

KENNESAW, Ga. — Thousands of people have been flocking to see a massive Christmas light display in Cobb County.

The home in Kennesaw features nearly 300,000 lights and music.

Channel 2's Matt Johnson spoke to the family who said there's been a record turnout.

The Taylor family said this year’s lights brought the biggest crowds yet.

A show this big takes months of planning and hundreds of thousands of lights.

The joy that comes from taking in the incredible Christmas lights display is only matched by the family that puts it all together.

"We certainly think we give a lot of Christmas joy to a lot of people and it’s great to see so many people come by,” homeowner Robert Taylor said.

Taylor said there are 275,000 lights lining his home on Ben King Road.

It started small 20 years ago and blossomed into the Christmas spectacle that makes drivers stop and stare.

“A couple of thousand have probably come through here absolutely,” his wife, Sherri Taylor, said.

The Taylor family said it takes three months and some hired help to cover 650-feet in lights for the dazzling display.

“It’s probably 500 hours of work this year,” Robert Taylor said.

One tree can have 18,000 lights on it by itself so the whole operation also takes a big power bill.

“It's about $1,100 but that’s really the smaller expense, it’s the cost of putting it up is the major cost,” Robert Taylor said.

And even beyond the lights, there is the Christmas music that makes 9-year-old Samantha Allen light up with joy.

“Like the song goes with the lights,” Allen said.

Rebecca Lincoln brought her family for a nice way to end a holiday weekend.

"This is a good thing to spend time with your family especially when we work all the time,” Lincoln said.

The Taylor family is already at work planning for next year.

Just how big will it get?

“That depends on how high the power bill gets,” Sherri Taylor said.

The family already has 90,000 new lights for next year.

You have one more week to come see the house this year. The lights come down on New Year's Day.
