COBB COUNTY, Ga — Cobb County added extra 911 dispatchers to the staff Friday as severe weather moved toward the metro before rush hour.
“This is exactly the kind of event that they are trained to handle,” said 911 Director Melissa Alterio.

Alterio allowed Channel 2′s Courtney Francisco inside the control room to see the dispatchers respond to callers first hand.
Ok a typical day, the call center is staffed with about 20 workers. On a day with weather concerns, they expect more calls to come in. So they staffed with 27 workers this time to help respond to downed trees and power lines.

Before 5:00 in the evening Friday, a tree fell on a home in the eastern part of the county. A family, including a six year old, escaped unharmed. However, a tree removal company at the home estimated the damage to top $150,000. The home was deemed unlivable. It could be months before the family is able to return.
