Surgeons rush to Athens construction site after worker falls into machinery

ATHENS, Ga. — A team of surgeons, an anesthesiologist and nurses were called to a construction site on Friday morning after a worker fell.

The Athens-Clarke County Fire Department says workers were pouring concrete on Athens Bypass when a worker fell into an aggregate placer machine and got tangled up in the auger.

Crews and the specialized surgical team from Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center spent more than an hour trying to get him out of the machine.

Officials have not released more details on the worker’s injuries or their current condition.
