A rideshare driver has been sentenced to 25 years in jail after he was convicted in May of sexually assaulting a teenager.
Jeremiah Nicholas Norwood, 45, was sentenced by Cherokee County Chief Superior Court Judge David L. Cannon, Jr., on Thursday.
During the sentencing, the prosecution emphasized that Norwood deliberately targeted a child who was alone that night.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation in February 2022 after a 15-year-old girl reported that a Uber driver, later identified as Norwood, had sexually assaulted her.
Investigators determined that in the early morning hours of February 5, 2022, the victim requested a ride to a friend’s house in Canton. During that drive and again later that morning, the defendant provided the child with controlled substances in exchange for sexual acts.
Norwood will not have the possibility of parole, plus life on probation under sex offender special conditions.
