EAST POINT, Ga. — East Point City Manager Redmond Jones has been placed on administrative leave while the city investigates allegations that he received more than $15,000 in unauthorized payments.

The issue came to a head after concerned East Point residents brought their concerns to City Council. Residents had also been sending council members emails and city records they said showed questionable payments to Jones.
According to those records, the payments included 64 hours of overtime, even though Jones is in a salaried position that does not receive overtime. He is also accused of increasing his car allowance from $500 to $1,000 a month.

Jones was already facing a two-day suspension over the increased car allowance, according to the report.
After residents spoke during a City Council meeting, council members went into executive session to discuss a personnel issue. Council then placed Jones on administrative leave for 10 days pending an investigation.
Resident Sharon Lovett questioned why Jones would be allowed to take a city vehicle home, particularly outside an on-call position.
“You’re elected to make sure you’re watching over what goes on in the city,” resident Napoleon Black told council members.
