CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — On Friday at the Georgia National Cemetery in Cherokee County, Taps was played to honor a member of our military.
A memorial service was held under Committal Service Shelter 1 for one of the state’s favorite sons, First Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan.
“It’s always an honor to stand for the fallen, always,” U.S. Army Veteran Reuben Baumgardner said.

Channel 2’s Berndt Petersen and Baumgardner joined dozens of other vets who are members of the Patriot Guard Riders, who wanted to honor the fallen soldier and the family he left behind.
Lt. Feehan was killed in action July 18 while serving in Operation Epic Fury.
His family says he was supposed to return home the very day he died, but the military needed him a while longer.
His loved ones were understandably too upset to speak about it on a day like this, but his mom shared her feelings with Channel 2 Action News earlier this week.

“I don’t think I could be more proud as a mom of what he did and what he sacrificed,” Shari Feehan said.
It was a funeral with full military honors, for a soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Feehan and his grandfather, Benjamin, who also served in the military and passed away a few days after his grandson was killed, are now laid to rest at the Georgia National Cemetery side by side.
In recognition of his sacrifice, First Lieutenant Feehan was posthumously promoted to Captain.
