Victorian mansion catches fire after lightning strike (The Heirloom Store)

CARROLLTON, Ga. — The owners of a west Georgia store were sitting outside of it on Saturday night when lightning struck.

A Victorian mansion on Maple Street in Carrollton, which is now The Heirloom Store, caught fire over the weekend.

The store owners posted on social media that they were sitting outside waiting on storms to pass when they saw a lightning strike and heard a clap of thunder.

They say they didn’t realize until fire crews arrived that their store had been struck and caught fire.

“I cannot say enough how thankful I am that someone noticed it and called right away. It truly could have been so much worse,” they wrote.

The Victorian steeple, turret and balcony suffered major damage.

They say the store does not appear to have been affected by the fire, smoke or water.

“The Mansion means so much to us, and I know so many of you love it just as much as we do,” they wrote in a statement.
