MATCHUP

The Braves won 11 of the 19 games against the Phillies in the NL East battle this year. Only three of those losses happened at home.

Atlanta’s offense outscored Philadelphia 90-85 and during each of its wins this season, the long-ball was a big factor. Braves radio announcer Ben Ingram said the team hit 20 home runs combined in 11 wins and only four home runs combined in the eight games they lost.

As far as pitching goes, the starting rotations have not been announced for either team. But the teams have announced that Max Fried will start for Atlanta and Ranger Suarez for Philadelphia in Game 1.

Braves fans are waiting to hear about the status of rookie phenom Spencer Strider and if he’s available to pitch in the NLDS. Strider has performed well against the Phillies with a 4-0 record and 1.27 ERA, striking out 34 Philadelphia batters.

If not, Atlanta will likely turn to Kyle Wright and Charlie Morton in Game 2 and 3. If the series goes longer, the Braves have options with Jake Odorizzi, Bryce Elder or a bullpen game.

The Phillies meanwhile used two of their best arms in Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola for the wild card series, but they could go on short rest for Game 2 and Game 3. Noah Syndergaard and Bailey Falter are other options for the Phillies if the series goes to Game 4.
