Box truck hits pedestrian on busy highway

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police in Gwinnett County are investigating a crash that left a young man in critical condition.

Investigators said a man stepped onto the road in the 1700 block of Grayson Highway, and an oncoming box truck wasn't able to avoid hitting him. Police said crews transported the man to the hospital in critical condition.

"Really sad," said Monique Woolard, who was walking nearby.

The crash happened across the street from Couch Middle School. Woolard said many people walk near the busy highway.

"It's a lot of teenagers out here on skateboards bikes, jogging, walking because like we said, there's a lot of subdivisions," said witness Tyressa McCormick. "Very heartbreaking, we pray for the family because that's somebody's child."

The victim has not been identified. Police said the driver involved in the crash will not be charged.
