The incident started as a traffic stop in the city of Aragon in Polk County late Friday night according to the GBI. Investigators say an Aragon Police officer tried to pull over 27-year-old Shannon Thompson.

Aragon is about an hour northwest of Atlanta.

Police say Thompson took off from the stop with Aragon police in pursuit. While police were chasing Thompson, the officer called the Georgia State Patrol’s help as the chase went from Polk County to Bartow County.

GBI Investigators say the trooper was able to execute a PIT maneuver on Thompson’s vehicle in Taylorsville, causing him to drive into a field off of Main Street. That is when investigators say Thompson drove out of the field and towards the trooper who was standing in the road.

The trooper shot at Thompson’s vehicle, hitting him in the arm, police said. Thompson drove back towards Polk County as officers continued to chase him.
