Authorities ID body found in Lake Lanier as missing Buford man

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — Hall County authorities have confirmed the body found floating in Lake Lanier Sunday is that of a missing Gwinnett County man.

Channel 2’s Tony Thomas broke the news on Twitter Monday afternoon.

Deputies say 25-year-old Kelly Nash's body appeared to have been in the water since about the time he disappeared on Jan. 5.

"Still no answers on exactly what occurred, we just know he drowned. Now we are just trying to determine how he got there," Hall County Deputy Nicole Bailes said.

Boaters discovered Nash's body floating near a private dock Sunday afternoon.  The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy Monday to confirm the identity. Authorities say Nash drowned.

"Foul play has been ruled out." Bailes said.

Nash's family and friends conducted several searches in the north Gwinnett and south Hall area near Nash's Jimmy Dodd Road home, but never found any clues to where he might be. His girlfriend told authorities she saw Nash early in the morning at their house wearing pajamas.  His father, Alan Nash, had offered a $50,000 reward for anyone providing information leading to his son. Nash told Thomas late last month he believed his son was still alive.

Monday afternoon, a statement was posted on the Kelly Nash Missing Facebook page which read:  "Thank you for all of your prayers. At this time, the family respectfully request privacy regarding Kelly. We know many of you have questions, as do we, but unfortunately there are no answers to share at the moment. Please continue to keep the Nash family in your thoughts and prayers."

Investigators say they are waiting on medical tests to return before determining where the investigation will go.
