2 in custody, 3rd suspect wanted after shots fired at Piedmont Park

ATLANTA — Two people are in custody and police are actively searching for a third after shots were fired inside the popular Piedmont Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were at the park within two minutes after receiving calls of shots being fired just before 3:30 p.m.

Channel 2’s Courtney Francisco was at the park as Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum confirmed that no one was injured.

One of the officers responding encountered one suspect trying to change his clothes.

Schierbaum says that a 29-year-old and 21-year-old are currently in custody, but neither’s identity has been released.

He says they are searching for a third suspect, but know who that person is.

Police have recovered a rifle and pistol, but are searching the ground for another gun.

“We don’t want that land in the wrong hands of anybody,” said Jazmyn Sippio.

Sippio said she grew up going to the park and worked there in the past.

She said the shooting did not surprise her.

“Unfortunately, things like this have been going on in Piedmont Park for quite some time over the years,” said Sippio.

They say there is no danger to the public.
