ATLANTA — On Friday, friends and family of the youngest of the 13 original Freedom Riders gathered at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church to honor his life and work.
Charles Person died earlier this month at the age of 82 at his home in Fayette County.
When he was just 18 years old, he joined other activists on buses working to integrate the south.

Person was a graduate of David T. Howard High School and attended Morehouse College.
He was involved in the Atlanta Student Movement, helping to desegregate Atlanta’s restaurants, stores, and public facilities.
During the civil rights movement, he was a victim of violent attacks.
He also served in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years.
