ATLANTA — Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the history of Latinos while looking at the impact that community has on everyday Americans.
There is a mural on the Beltline you may have walked under or have seen in tourist videos promoting Atlanta.

The artist dedicated it to a very special person.
“I painted this back in 2019. This is my first large-scale installation in Atlanta,” Lisette Correa told Channel 2’s Jorge Estevez.
Correa’s first mural, which decorates the Edgewood Avenue bridge along the Beltline, was created as a tribute to Puerto Rican culture.
“We’re so proud of Boricua. It’s like, nobody could ever take our heritage away from us,” Correa said.
In the five years since, the creative who goes by Arrtaddict now has almost 90 other murals under her belt, including one at Krog Street.
She said she painted it during the winter.

“It took three months. It was freezing,” Correa said.
“I had to buy heated vests. I was wearing layers of sweaters and jackets. It was hardcore,” she said.
The work highlights the indigenous culture of women being the kasekis or chiefs. It also honors her grandmother who passed away the week she created it.
“I wanted to put my grandmother because she was the kaseki of my family, you know?” Correa said.
She told Estevez her work is about unifying people.
“The best way to do it is by storytelling and making sure that we all respect each other’s history and where we came from to understand who we are today,” Correa said.
“I get to paint for the rest of my life. Like, what a blessing, you know? I feel so thankful that I’m not only able to do what I love, but inspire people and tell stories at the same time,” she said.
