Georgia smashes record of new COVID-19 cases, with nearly 8,000 reported today

As COVID-19 cases rise across Georgia, so does demand for more nurses in metro hospitals

ATLANTA — Preliminary data released Thursday shows nearly 8,000 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 Thursday.

That number blows the previous record of 6,242 cases out of the water, and reporting was delayed today because of the high volume of tests.

At least 7,958 new cases were confirmed Thursday.

The Georgia Department of Health said the full caseload will be updated by 5 p.m. The GDH usually updates new coronavirus data by 3 p.m. every day.

As of 3 p.m. Thursday, 54 more people have died of the coronavirus.

Georgia has seen a total of 531,954 people test positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began in March. At least 9,554 people have died in the state.
