ATLANTA — Water main breaks seem to occur frequently in the city of Atlanta and surrounding areas.
This month, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff’s legislation to help upgrade Atlanta’s water infrastructure was signed into law.
Sen. Ossoff and Sen. Rev. Raphael Warnock’s City of Atlanta Water Infrastructure Enhancement Act became law as part of the Water Resources Development Act reauthorization to upgrade water infrastructure for families and businesses across Atlanta.

Georgia Congresswoman Nikema Williams introduced the companion bill in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The law is set to expand existing authorization for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to carry out water infrastructure projects in the city, including drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure projects, which would improve quality of life and strengthen resilience.
Expanded authorization provided by Congress can now appropriate more funding for water infrastructure projects across the city.

“Clean, safe, healthy drinking water is not a luxury — it’s a necessity. For families, for seniors, and for businesses in the community, any interruption of safe drinking water is an emergency,” Sen. Ossoff said. “That’s why after disruptions in Atlanta, we passed this legislation into law to help upgrade Atlanta’s water infrastructure.”
