Atlanta movie theater shooting worries local businesses

ATLANTA — A shooting inside a northeast Atlanta movie theater is concerning surrounding business owners.

Two people were hospitalized after a shooting at the Midtown Arts Cinema just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The shooting and the aftermath left four people injured. The two hit by bullets went to the hospital. Two others suffered minor injuries in the stampede following the gun fire.

The owner of a nearby restaurant told Channel 2’s Erica Byfield the shooting was unlike anything he had ever seen in the area.

“This is a very peaceful shopping center. I’ve been here more than 10 years. I’ve never seen any of these kinds of things,” said restaurant owner Mani Roy.

Roy said he was surprised at how quickly officers responded. An off-duty police officer just happened to be in the area when the shooting happened and radioed for help.

He said he saw about thirty police officers with large guns.

“My wife told me, ‘Look, look, look!' Lots of people came. Lots of police cars came,” said Roy.

Roy watched from above as Channel 2 Action News cameras shot from the ground on Tuesday evening. He said he saw a woman bleeding.

“I think she had been shot in the leg or somewhere,” said Roy.

Police said everyone was at the theater to watch the premiere of an independent film.

Detectives say they have video of the incident.
