7000 pounds of marble crushes Pickens Co. worker

Pickens County sheriff’s officials say a man died at a marble plant in Pickens County.

PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. — It happened in Tate on Monday at around 8:45 p.m.

Sheriff’s officials say it happened inside the plant where they cut the marble into pieces to become countertops.

According to authorities, 7000 pounds worth of marble fell onto him. There were nine marble slabs.

The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Kevin Voyles.

Authorities say there were two men inside the factory at the time. One of the workers went outside.

When he came back in, authorities say his coworker was underneath the nine slabs of marble.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.
