A 5-year-old girl has died after a minibike she was riding crashed into a chain connected to concrete poles.
The collision happened July 31 in a strip mall parking lot, WJBF reported.
Ulyssia Thomas, 5 years old, was riding on the back of the bike with a 17-year-old driving, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Augusta Press reported investigators found the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, and the driver did not see the chain stretched across the lot’s entrance.

The girl had no pulse and was unconscious when emergency personnel arrived, but she was revived and taken to a nearby hospital. She died days later from her injuries.
Investigators said reckless driving was the cause of the crash.
Channel 2 has reached out to the sheriff’s office to see if any criminal charges will be filed.
