CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport reports that a sewage spill happened on Wednesday.

Airport officials said the spill occurred at a sewer lift station near the west end of Runway 10-28. They estimate about 33,000 gallons of sewage went into a wooded area next to Sullivan Creek.
Law requires the airport to report any spill larger than 10,000 gallons. The cause of the spill is still being looked into.
Officials said it did not cause any problems for flights or passengers.

Crews got the lift station working again about 90 minutes after the spill started. Workers put a neutralizing agent on the affected ground and are checking water quality downstream as required by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.
The airport said it is working with state and local partners to address the spill and continues to operate as usual.
The investigation is ongoing and officials said more information will be shared when available.
