VILLA RICA, Ga. — Sunday's storms are being blamed for a deadly chain reaction crash on Interstate 20.
A Georgia State Patrol spokesman told Channel 2 Action News the chain of events began when a vehicle spun out of control and hit a guardrail on eastbound I-20 in Villa Rica. A motorist stopped to help the driver, but was hit by another car after leaving their vehicle.
A Ford Expedition trying to avoid the first two crashes rolled through the median fence and into westbound lanes. A passenger in the SUV was killed, GSP said.
GSP said four people were hospitalized with injuries.
Traffic on I-20 was stalled for hours as police investigated the crash scene.
