The hospital released the following statement on their Facebook page:

We are heartbroken to announce that Fairview Park Hospital CEO, Don Avery, passed away unexpectedly. For 17 years, Don led our hospital with passion and a personality that was bigger than life. The Fairview Park Hospital team was his family. Dublin was his home.

While we mourn the loss of our leader and grieve the sting of the memories of just yesterday, we look upward knowing He is resting where his heart longed to be, with his Savior and with his Meredith.

He’s now flying higher than any plane could ever help him soar. While we miss him and cry countless tears, we look forward to the day we will see him again. Until then, we will carry on his mission in loving people and leaving people better than you found them.

Don’s favorite verse and life mission:

“Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”

-Thessalonians 5:11

The rural hospital community has issued an outpouring of condolences and expressions speaking to what Avery meant to healthcare and those he encountered.

The Georgia Hospital Association released the following statement regarding Avery’s untimely death:

Don was a devoted healthcare leader who believed in people first, and we will remember his remarkable character, faith, and passion for serving Georgians,” said GHA President and CEO Caylee Noggle. “He was a true champion for improving access to care and promoting patient safety at his hospital and as an engaged member of GHA’s Board of Trustees. I’m thankful I had the opportunity to know him, and our hearts go out to his loving family, friends, and the team at Fairview Park Hospital.”
