COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Prosecutors believed they've made a dent in a hail damage scam.
Police said Timothy Preston Robertson and Timothy Bryan Dotts have traveled though several counties stealing insurance money for roofs they never replaced.
Preston and Dotts used neighbors as "pawns" in a game to attract victims, investigators said.
Neighbor Pam Butler said she hired the father and son roofing team because they were right next door.
"I went based on the fact that my neighbor got hers completed," said Butler.
Scott Grove said he paid $3,200 for his roof after he saw his neighbors get their roof replaced.
"They didn't get anything done," Grove said.
Police said it was all part of the plan to repair a few roofs at low prices and then sign up the neighbors.
"That's when they started taking the money and not doing any of the work, said Cobb police officer Ken Clausen.
"Especially in today's economy, taking advantage of innocent homeowners trying to do the right thing," said Grove.
Robertson is being held without bond in Paulding county and Dotts in Cobb county on $95,000 bond.
