Minnesota man dies after small plane crashes into icy harbor

DULUTH, Minn. — A man has died after a small plane crashed into an icy harbor in Duluth, officials said.

In a news release, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office said that just after 4 p.m. Friday, multiple people called 911 to report a plane crash seen near Grassy Point. After authorities arrived at the crash, they found a 52-year-old man dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said that the man was the only person in the small plane. There were also no damages to structures in the area.

The plane went down near the Richard I. Bong Memorial Bridge in an area that connects Duluth and Superior, Wisconsin, according to The Associated Press.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to investigate the crash, the AP reported.

Authorities have not released the name of the man killed in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
