Coronavirus vaccine: Where do you stand in line for a COVID-19 vaccine?

It’s a question you are hearing more these days: When can I get a COVID-19 vaccination?

The question has a lot of parts, depending mostly on where you live. The distribution of the vaccines is left up to state governments.

While most are following a broad outline by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each state’s governor has the discretion to decide who gets the vaccine and in what order. Most are vaccinating health care workers first, with the elderly coming up next.

If you are not in those groups or are not an essential worker (they are close to the front of the line as well), when can you expect to be able to get a vaccination?

Adm. Brett Giroir, an assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, told Fox News Sunday “that any American who wants a vaccine can be vaccinated by June.”

But if you like to crunch your own numbers, The New York Times has developed a calculator of sorts to help. Using the Surgo Foundation and Ariadne Labs vaccine tool, the calculator gives you an estimate of how many people like you, living where you do will need the vaccine, and where you might fit in that line.
