GROVETOWN, Ga. — A man shot his brother in hopes of ending what police call an unprovoked fight, police say.
It all started in a home on Lory Lane in Grovetown where Matthew Simmons, 34, began hitting his younger brother, D’Andre Simmons, 26, according to Grovetown police.

Preliminary information from police said the mother of the two was trying to come between them and was hit by Matthew Simmons. Her granddaughter, who is D’Andre Simmons’ daughter, was cut.

D’Andre Simmons pulled a handgun out and fired shots during the fight to stop Matthew Simmons who, according to police, would not stop his aggression.
The older brother shot his younger brother in the upper leg. Matthew Simmons was taken to the hospital for treatment. EMS treated the others at home.
Charges are pending against Matthew Simmons. He will be arrested once he’s released from the hospital, according to police.
