Mary Mashburn, 47, and her 4-year-old son, Rasul, died when fire engulfed their home on Waters Road in Southwest Atlanta Wednesday. Mashburn’s 7-year-old son Camden was able to jump out of a window to safety with the help of a couple of Good Samaritans who saw the fire and ran over to help.
Firefighters say Mashburn and her son were found in a bathroom in the back of the home. When firefighters arrived, they say there were flames coming from all sides of the home.
Mashburn’s boyfriend managed to get out safely.

Mashburn’s daughter, Angel Albright, told Channel 2’s Tom Regan her 7-year-old brother told her 4-year-old Rasul was frightened by the fire.
“He was at the window, but he was afraid to jump. He didn’t want to jump and he was afraid. And he ran back to be with my mom,” Angel Albright said her brother told her.
Firefighters say the fire is under investigation.
says there are media reports the fire started when her two brothers were playing with matches.
She says that’s not what the surviving child and firefighters told her. She says her 7-year-old brother says he was asleep at the time and woke up to the fire.
There is a GoFundMe account set up to help the family with funeral expenses.
