A woman has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after a man was stabbed to death in 2019. Police say her “muttering” during interrogation for another crime help them solve the case.
Carmen Marie Hunt was found guilty in the cold case killing of 61-year-old Ray Anthony Neal in 2019, according to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office.

Neal was last seen on the night of July 19, 2019, when his sister dropped him off at his Lawrenceville home. His sister went to the home after she couldn’t reach him and found him stabbed to death.
Police interviewed witnesses and analyzed evidence but the case went cold. It wasn’t until 2022 when police arrested Hunt for another stabbing that they were able to connect her to Neal’s death.

Police arrested Hunt after stabbing 58-year-old Derrick Gray Young in Lawrenceville. Young survived the attack and Hunt later pleaded guilty to aggravated assault.
Investigators say they matched Hunt’s fingerprints to a print recovered from Neal’s home. Hunt admitted to seeing Neal the night before he was found dead but denied attacking him, according to the DA’s office.
During the murder trial, jurors heard testimony from Young regarding the 2022 assault. Prosecutors also showed video footage of police interviewing Hunt.
When investigators left the interview room, Hunt muttered to herself, “you didn’t get away with this murder.”
The jury deliberated for three-and-a-half hours before returning guilty verdicts on all counts.
