Krista and Tyler Schindley were arrested earlier this week after their emaciated son was found wandering the streets looking for food. He weighed just 36 pounds at the time.

Channel 2′s Audrey Washington went through the warrants Thursday, which detail the alleged abuse that took place over a period of three years from May 12, 202 to May 12, 2023.

Warrants state that the Shindleys intentionally withheld food, locked the boy in his bedroom for extended periods and left him at home alone with no access to lights, food, clothing or adult interaction or help on multiple occasions.

He was also left without hot or warm water, toilet paper, electronic communication, human interaction or a view of the outside, warrants say.

The warrants indicate that the couple was also aware of dental injuries and disfiguration and didn’t provide medical treatment.

The Schindleys are also accused of causing “visible old and new injuries” to the child.

According to the warrants, those injuries were inflicted in front of other children in the home.

Washington also obtained a 911 call made by a woman who found the boy wandering the neighborhood on Westminster Circle.

“I just had a child walk past my house alone,” the woman says. “A small child.”

Neighbors told Channel 2 Action News Wednesday that the child looked much younger than 10 years old, and that he was small and thin.

“He looks... maybe 6?” the 911 caller said. “He’s asking us not to tell his parents. I don’t know who his parents are, but he’s asking us to please not take him home.”

The child is still hospitalized and suffering from malnourishment and a low heart rate.

“Had he not gotten out of that home, I truly believe this would have been a very different case,” District Attorney Marie Broder said.

Both Tyler and Krista Schindley are facing charges of criminal attempt to commit a felony, first-degree cruelty to children, second-degree cruelty to children, third-degree cruelty to children, battery, simple battery, and false imprisonment.

The couple is due in court Tuesday.

The other children who were in the home are now with the Department of Family and Children’s Services.
