GEORGIA — In the wake of damage to communities across the southeast from Hurricane Isaias, a telecommunications company says it’s activating more than a thousand free internet access points.
Spectrum announced 1,540 free WiFi access points were now online for communities in need of connection as they recover from the storm’s damages.
Channel 2 Action News reported when Hurricane Isaias’ high-speed winds tore roofs off buildings and caused flooding in various communities in multiple states.

As families, and in some cases whole neighborhoods, turn toward recovery, Spectrum says it is helping them stay connected.
“The access points are available to everyone, not just Spectrum customers, helping people stay informed with the latest news, recovery updates and information on how to access local, state, and federal resources,” Spectrum said in a statement. “They will remain open over the next several days, including 24 hours after power is restored.”
The access points are active in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee, according to the company.
