On May 3, police answered a call of an unresponsive child at an apartment complex on McDonough Road, Channel 2’s Tom Regan reports.
The girl, identified as 2-year-old Nevaeh Wynn, was rushed to Piedmont Rockdale Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators say they found empty nitrous oxide cannisters and an empty box of kratom capsules inside the family’s apartment.
Following a toxicology test, the medical examiner concluded the cause of death as a drug overdose.

“The medical examiner did uncover traces of kratom and nitrous oxide in the system of Neveah Wynn, and it was ruled a homicide,” said Conyers Police Lt. Kayla Hinds.
Last week, police arrested the parents, Kerri Dysart, 28, and Rafael Pedron Wynn, 30, on charges of second-degree murder.
The deacon of a church near the apartment complex where the toddler lived said what happened is heartbreaking.
“To see something like that, you just feel for the children. It’s senseless,” said Miller’s Chapel Baptist Church Deacon Kenneth Harper.
Police say it has been an emotional investigation.
“Most of us in the criminal investigation division are parents ourselves. So this is very hard for everyone, especially any parent,” Hinds said.
The parents are being held without bond in the Rockdale County Jail. Their first scheduled court appearance is Oct. 7.
