Teens lead police on 100mph, 60-mile chase through Alabama into Georgia

HARALSON COUNTY, Ga. — Three people, at least two of whom are teenagers, were arrested after leading deputies and police on a high-speed chase through two states.

Sheriff’s deputies in St. Clair County, Alabama attempted to make a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Malibu that kicked off a chase that would span approximately 60 miles alongside deputies from Cleburne County, Alabama.

Haralson County deputies were alerted that the chase would likely enter their jurisdiction via I-20. Deputies and officers from the Tallapoosa Police Department put spike strips along the interstate to stop the car.

The car, which was traveling upwards of 100 MPH, slowed to about 80 MPH before hitting the spikes and blowing out a tire.

Once the car came to a stop near mile marker 7, deputies ordered the three people inside out of the car and they were all arrested.

Deputies were able to confiscate firearms from the car.

The 17-year-old driver is facing charges of multiple traffic violations, obstruction and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

The front seat passenger, who is also a minor, is being charged with obstruction and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

The passenger in the back seat, whose age was not disclosed, is being charged with obstruction.

“These offenders, committing criminal acts and traveling at such a high rate of speed, posed a danger to anyone traveling on I-20. They are now off the roadways, thanks to the teamwork and fast response of the Sheriff’s Office and Tallapoosa Police Department,” said Haralson County Sheriff Stacy Williams. “We will continue to protect our citizens and those that travel through our county.”

The guns were taken into evidence and the car was towed with no other damage caused to property or cars.
