This historic restaurant in Buckhead is closing

ATLANTA — Neighbors are sad to find out that a longtime restaurant next to Chastain Park in Buckhead is closing.

Pat Hoderny will be one of the last customers ever to eat at the historic Horseradish Grill on Powers Ferry Road when it closes its doors Saturday night.

He walks his dogs near the iconic restaurant regularly and plans to be there the night before it closes for good.

“I can see it’s got a special place for a lot of folks, and hopefully we’re able to go there for years to come,” Hoderny said.

The Chastain Park icon has been a mainstay in the community for 25 years.

Now under new ownership, it will reopen in the summer with a new look and a new name, “The Chastain.”

Longtime neighbors know the space used to be home to a country store before that closed in the 1930s.

In the 1940s, it reopened as “The Red Barn Inn” with a horse stable theme.

Now, neighbors are optimistic about what's next.

“You always just hope the service is going to be as good and that it has a nice quaint feel to it like this one does,” Hoderny said.

The new owners said that preserving the warmth and character of the restaurant is vital.

No exact date for the grand opening has been announced.
