Family of man killed in hit-and-run in Griffin remembers his angelic voice

GRIFFIN, Ga. — Deandre Head was hit and killed on Patterson Road in Griffin, earlier this week. Police say the driver took off.

Head’s family tries to remember the good things about him, instead of how his life came to a tragic end.

“It was a singing that you could feel. You could feel it. Anytime he opened up that mouth,” said Anita Harps, Head’s aunt.

His voice reached the hearts of many.

“He loved to sing. He played drums. He played bass guitar and keyboard,” said Harps.

He was a father of four. Harps said Head loved his family and children.

In fact, Head’s latest child, a daughter, was born earlier this week. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, he had not seen the baby and was waiting for her release from the hospital to see her.

“She is so precious. I just wish he could’ve saw her,” said Harps.

Head was on his way home from work when he was hit and killed.

“The baby was born on Tuesday. I think that was the 25th. He got hit on the 26th. She came home the next day,” says Harps.

Head’s family is overwhelmed with emotions and will only get closure if they get justice.

“I would ask him why did he leave the scene and not call 911,” said Harps.

“They could’ve saved his life because he didn’t die instantly according to the coroner,” said Montez Head, the victim’s cousin.

Police arrested and charged Jacob Nelson not too long after the crash. He is facing numerous charges, including vehicular homicide.

“I dont want him to get away with it. I want him to do the time,” said Harps.

The family will fight for justice while rallying around the baby’s mother, as she now has to raise four children alone.

“She can’t eat. She said she can’t sleep. It’s just hard. It’s just hard on all of us,” said Harps.
