SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — Two people were taken to the hospital Friday morning after a crash involving a Clayton County police SWAT vehicle in Spalding County.

Georgia State Patrol troopers said the crash happened just before 11 a.m. on State Route 3.

Troopers said a Clayton County Police Department “Bearcat” SWAT vehicle was traveling southbound in the right lane at a slow rate of speed because of a mechanical failure.

A Clayton County police Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling behind the Bearcat with its emergency blue lights activated, according to troopers.

An elderly driver in a Nissan Titan was traveling southbound in the same lane and approached the two slow-moving police vehicles from behind.

Troopers said the Nissan hit the back of the Chevrolet Tahoe, pushing the police SUV forward into the Bearcat.

The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

The driver of the Nissan Titan was also taken for medical treatment.

The investigation remains ongoing. The drivers’ identities were not released.
