SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — State troopers said a driver that crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer appeared to be watching a podcast on his phone.

Troopers responded to the crash around 1:13 a.m. Monday. They found a Ford Fusion had struck the rear trailer of the Freightliner Cascadia 125 while going south on I-85 in South Fulton County.

The Freightliner was stopped due to an active construction pacing detail, Georgia State Police said in a news release.

The driver of the Ford was distracted driving and following too closely, and it came to an uncontrolled rest lodged under the trailer.

The driver of the freightliner stated he was stopped due to traffic congestion in front of him when he was hit.

“EMS staff stated when they arrived the driver of the ford’s cellphone was in his lap, and it appeared he was actively watching a podcast,” GSP said in the statement.

The drivers were not identified, and no status on their condition was given. GSP has not said if there will be any charges for the driver.
