ATLANTA — Some high school students are getting help with college from an Atlanta rapper.
Lil Baby, the Grammy-nominated rapper, was once a student at Booker T. Washington High School in southwest Atlanta.
The rapper, whose real name is Dominique Jones, announced an endowed $150,000 scholarship program for students Wednesday.
Lil Baby, with the support of Amazon Music’s Rap Rotation, Quality Control, Wolfpack Global and Motown Records announced the “My Turn” Scholarship fund today. The scholarship will be awarded to a select group of students at Booker T. Washington High School who have displayed excellence in leadership and in the classroom. The scholarship will be given out annually starting in 2020.
He also commended senior Vachon Raye Jr. for his academic achievements.
"Him coming back here. Why would he want to come here? To give back. For him to give back, really impact for me,” Raye said.
Raye plans to head to an ivy league school.
