Mom accused of keying car in school parking lot apologizes

ROSWELL, Ga. — A mother was arrested and taken to jail for allegedly damaging a car after a road rage incident in Roswell.

Letty Amelia Bradford is accused of keying a woman's car in the parking lot of Hillside Elementary School on Dec. 19.

Police say the victim was pulling into the Hillside Elementary parking lot for a Christmas show. Bradford was parked in front of her and not moving.  So, the victim says she drove around her and found a parking spot, only to have expletives allegedly hurled at her. When she came out of the show she found $600 worth of keying done to her 2014 Kia Sorento.

The case went cold for weeks, but an officer who wanted justice for the victim went back and reviewed school surveillance video and pinpointed the suspect.

Bradford was arrested over the weekend on felony charges. She was charged with criminal damage to property and disrupting public school.

Bradford spent three days in jail.

Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik spoke with Bradford by phone Wednesday.

“I made a mistake. Nobody is perfect,” Bradford said. “I know that I acted wrong and I'm deeply sorry and this is not who I am.”

Bradford says the other car's driver was rude and took a spot she was waiting for.

"It was a stressful time, right before the holidays, and with having to take time off work and she basically pushed my buttons,” Bradford said. "I'm very sorry.  I was having a bad day and I overreacted.”

Parents at the school agreed.

"It's probably a pretty bad example to set for your kids. You've got to have some self-control every now and then,” one parent said.

Bradford said she will pay the woman back for the damage. She has a court date in a few weeks.
