WRIGHTSVILLE, Ga. — Police arrested a driver and passenger after a traffic stop in Wrightsville led to the discovery of contraband hidden inside taped packages and sewn-together footballs intended for Johnson State Prison

Officers with Wrightsville Police Dept. stopped the car on Folsom Drive at 12:16 a.m. Aug. 25 because of a suspended vehicle registration.
After obtaining consent from the driver to search the vehicle, officers said they uncovered illegal drugs, alcohol, electronics and tools.
During the vehicle search, officers located a large box wrapped in black tape in the back seat, which contained four large packages also wrapped in black tape.
In the trunk, officers found a large backpack containing six footballs that had been cut open and sewn back together.

Information obtained from the driver indicated that the occupants were in the area to pick up a third person.
Investigators returned to the area to attempt to find the third individual.
A detailed inspection conducted with assistance from a Johnson State Prison warden and investigator revealed an extensive list of contraband.
Seized items included 355 grams of marijuana, 2,618 grams of tobacco, five pint-sized bottles of Hennessy and five cell phones, consisting of four Motorolas and one iPhone.
Officers also confiscated one set of Dremel tools, nine saw blades, 10 charging cords, 12 charging blocks, seven pairs of earbuds, five lighters, 10 packs of cigar wraps, five packs of rolling papers, 19 Black and Mild cigars, three pairs of socks and one tray.
