Roswell fire chief on ventilator, in ICU battling COVID-19

ROSWELL, Ga. — Friends and loved ones of Roswell’s fire chief are asking for prayers from the community after he was admitted to the intensive care unit because of COVID-19.

Former Roswell fire Chief Ricky Spencer posted on his Facebook page that Chief Ricky Burnette is currently in the ICU on a ventilator because of the virus.

“This is a painful time for his family, his firefighters and his friends, which are many,” Spencer wrote. “There is not enough words to express how much I love this man and so proud of the job he has been doing and he is still our Fire Chief.”

“#Roswell is a family and our Chief needs your prayers after 30+ years of service to our community,” Roswell city councilman Matt Judy wrote in a Facebook post.

Spencer asked for people to pray for his longtime friend, Burnette.

“Ricky has been and still is one of the most dedicated firefighters I have ever been associated with over the years. We have worked together for over 30 years, as he was my Deputy Chief when I was Fire Chief in Roswell. I’ve watched this man do things that have made the difference in people’s lives whether it was on a Fire or EMS scene,” Spencer wrote. “God Bless Fire Chief Ricky Burnette and give him the strength to beat this virus, In God’s name I pray.”
