150 students under quarantine in Walton County due to possible COVID-19 exposure

WALTON COUNTY, Ga. — Officials with the Walton County School District said 150 students are currently quarantined for possible exposure to COVID-19.

Officials said Thursday that the district has six positive cases across the district, including both students and staff.

“In accordance with the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Administrative Order and Quarantine Guidance, 150 students and five staff members have been quarantined as a result of these six cases,” officials said.

Students who were within six feet or less for 15 minutes or more beginning before the person who tested positive had symptoms are required to quarantine for 14 days.

Officials did not release which schools are involved. The district reopened August 4 with both virtual and in-person options.

"Schools will continue to work with students and teachers as they switch to working remotely during the quarantine period," officials said.

The Walton County School District has 14,228 students across 15 schools.
