ATLANTA — New details have been released about the death investigation that prompted a large law enforcement response Tuesday morning at an apartment complex along Chattahoochee Avenue in northwest Atlanta.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, 32-year-old Genesis Denton of Chicago was wanted on a murder warrant out of Illinois when authorities tried to take him into custody early Tuesday morning.

Investigators said members of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team went to an apartment building in the 1300 block of Chattahoochee Avenue NW around 5:40 a.m. to arrest Denton.
The GBI says deputies knocked on the apartment door and Denton moved toward a sliding glass door that led to a balcony. Officers outside the building fired less-lethal rounds toward the balcony area in an effort to keep him inside the apartment.

Instead, investigators say Denton went out onto the balcony, climbed over the railing and fell to the road below.
Denton died at the scene.
Earlier Tuesday, Channel 2’s Berndt Petersen reported seeing a large law enforcement presence at the Westbound at the Works apartment complex near Chattahoochee Food Works. Members of the U.S. Marshals Service were also on scene.

The GBI has taken over the investigation at the request of the Atlanta Police Department.
Denton’s body was taken to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy will be performed.
The investigation remains active. Once completed, the findings will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
