GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County mother charged in the hot car death of her son was allowed to leave jail Saturday to grieve her 1-year old son.
Police arrested the mother after they say she left her son, Daniel Coleman Jr., in the car while she worked a hospital shift.
Channel 2’s Susan Hendricks talked to the mother’s attorney, Tom Ford, who discussed the case.
Deja Coleman, 29, was allowed to go to the mortuary early this morning ahead of the ceremony, in her prison garb and in handcuffs at her wrists and shackles at her ankles, her attorney said.
“She was alone in that room for 45 minutes,” attorney Tom Ford said. “She was allowed to look at the photograph” on the flyer.
Ford said Coleman was thankful she was able to go.
Her attorney said earlier she has not had a private moment with her grief since the day she was booked.
Daniel was teething the night of July 28, and his mother had been up with him most of that night, according to Ford. The family was living in a domestic violence shelter at the time, Ford said.
