SMYRNA, Ga. — The Smyrna Police Department and state law enforcement officers arrested 11 people and issued dozens of citations during a traffic safety checkpoint along Windy Hill Road.

The operation took place Wednesday night into early Thursday morning as part of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
The checkpoint was conducted jointly by the Smyrna Police Department Special Operations Division and the Georgia Department of Public Safety Commercial Vehicle Enforcement. The operation began at approximately 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026 and concluded at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026.
During the operation, the Smyrna Police Department Special Operations Division issued 41 citations and made 11 arrests. Officers charged four drivers with DUI, six with driving without a license and one with driving with a suspended license. Police also impounded seven vehicles and deployed K-9 units five times.

Officers with the Georgia Department of Public Safety Commercial Vehicle Enforcement conducted 20 commercial vehicle inspections. Those inspections resulted in 16 citations, 15 warnings, four impounded vehicles and one driver placed out of service.
Law Enforcement Medical Services and Barrow Wrecker Service assisted officers throughout the operation.
