MIAMI — A man is accused of trying to smuggle live birds through Miami International Airport in his underwear.

Federal authorities say Alberto Hernandez Castillo arrived from Cuba last Sunday. He is a legal permanent resident of the U.S.
Customs officers sent him for a secondary inspection after noticing what they called an “unexplained bulge” near his waist.

Six plastic containers hidden in pockets sewn into his underwear were allegedly uncovered during a pat-down.
The containers allegedly held 10 live birds.
Officials said Hernandez Castillo allegedly said the birds were for his “personal use.”
He is charged with smuggling goods and was released on a $25,000 bond.
