Man arrested after attempting to kidnap Uber driver in Georgia, police say

WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. — A man has been arrested after allegedly holding an Uber driver at knifepoint after a multi-state investigation.

On May 8, an Uber driver from the Nashville, Tennessee area says she was forced to jump from her moving car after being assaulted by a passenger during a ride in Georgia, according to WTVC-TV.

Cohutta police said the driver had picked up Chris Miller after he said his truck broke down.

Authorities say the driver took him to Cleveland, Tennessee and asked her to pick him up to take him to his truck a few days later.

During that trip, police said Miller told the driver that he knew a “different way” that had less traffic, and started leading her on roads through northwest Georgia.

At some point along the drive, Miller pulled a knife on the driver and hit her in the ribs, police say. The driver then jumped from the car at around 55 mph. According to a GoFundMe set up for the driver, she suffered serious injuries, including losing several teeth, road rash and being run over by her own rear wheels.

She was treated at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Georgia.

Police said Miller then drove off with the car.

Cohutta police began investigating and later learned that Miller was arrested on felony warrants in Jacksonville, Florida by Duval County deputies and Jacksonville Police Department on Monday. Authorities said he had “firearms in his possession.”

The stolen vehicle was recovered in Cleveland, Tennessee, police said.

Authorities say more charges are expected for Miller.

According to Duval County jail records, Miller is expected to appear at a pretrial hearing in Jacksonville Tuesday, where he faces extradition to Georgia.
